November, 2006 - Carl Zeiss Meditec AG selects NIA Creative Health to develop its booth media at AAO

Halloween was a bit scarier than usual for NIA Creative Health this year. It was on that day that Carl Zeiss Meditec AG awarded an ambitious and challenging project to the agency: Develop 12 animated presentations as well as a video wall presentation for the 11,000 square foot Zeiss Meditec booth at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting (AAO), held on November 11 – 14, 2006 at The Venetian in Las Vegas. AAO is the largest and most comprehensive ophthalmic educational meeting in the world, attracting over 15,000 attendees. With the event less than 2 weeks away, there was little time to spare.

Production began immediately on a Flash file that would be used as a template for 12 client-supplied presentations. By choosing to utilize Flash as an authoring tool instead of simply creating the presentations in PowerPoint, NIA knew that the presentations would be more compelling and attractive, resulting in greater booth traffic as well as longer attendee retention within the booth. In addition, NIA utilized Adobe After Effects to develop a looping presentation to run on the booth’s 3x3 video wall. The video wall presentation would serve as an eye-catching display intended to drive attendees into the Zeiss Meditec booth.

The day before the event, NIA staff was on-hand at the booth to provide support to the A/V crew to ensure that the visuals displayed properly. In addition, NIA made last-minute changes to the presentations on-the-fly as needed.

The event has been a great success for Zeiss as well as NIA. Several members of the marketing team at Zeiss wondered how NIA managed to put everything together in time for the show. NIA Creative Director Chris Finetti noted, "This was definitely a team effort. We dedicated 5 people to this project who worked through the night to make it happen. But if it weren't for the support of key members of the Carl Zeiss Meditec marketing team, we wouldn't have been able to pull it off."
